Vandals turn out to be filmmakers undertaking high school project

Complaint comes in to police as youths damaging derelict property

The following are some of the calls of interest the Delta police responded to in the South Delta area between Monday, Dec. 3 and Saturday, Dec. 8: Tsawwassen

. December 3, 3: 21 p.m., 300-block of Tsawwassen Beach Road: Complainant reported that several youths were damaging derelict property next to her residence. The youths indicated to police they were filming for a project at the secondary school and were only banging on the walls.

Youths were warned that property was dangerous and not to return to this location.

. December 6, 2: 34 p.m., 1500-block of Duncan Drive: A report was received that the complainant's husband's locked car had been entered overnight and the engine had been left running. The driver's door was bent to gain access and the steering column broken with the ignition punched out. The vehicle was seized for fingerprinting.

. December 6, 10: 08 a.m., 1700-block of Golf Club Drive: Sometime overnight suspects pried open the door of a vehicle and caused major damage to the ignition.

No fingerprints found on the vehicle.

. December 7, 8: 21 a.m., 200-block of Murphy Drive: Two bicycles were stolen from an open carport sometime overnight. The bikes are a Reebok and a CCM valued at $800.

. December 7, 9: 20 p.m., 1800-block of 56th Street: Police contacted to assist with several youths causing a disturbance in a fast food restaurant. Approximately 20 youth were removed from the restaurant.

. December 8, 1: 14 p.m., 5000-block of Stevens Drive: A report was received that a vehicle parked in an open carport had been broken into sometime overnight. The vehicle was locked with no apparent signs of damage or place of entry. A wallet containing several bank cards, driver's licence and cash was stolen

. December 8, 11: 45 a.m., 5400-block of Wallace Avenue: A vehicle left unlocked was entered sometime overnight. Items stolen, valued at approximately $1,000, include Chanel and Bvlgari sunglasses, iPod and 65 CDs.

Ladner

. December 4, 1: 50 p.m., Tsawwassen Drive and 41B Street: A male reported he left his vehicle without setting the emergency brake as he prepared to go for a run on the dike. The vehicle rolled across the road, completely submerging in the ditch. A tow truck removed the vehicle, which suffered considerable water and body damage.

. December 6, 5: 31 p.m., 7200-block of Progress Way: Sometime overnight someone stole four new heavy-duty Roughrider Model 31s truck batteries from a parked unlicenced garbage truck.

December 7, 11: 36 a.m., 4700-block of 63rd Street: Complainant reported that over the past six weeks someone has been removing bolts from the skid plate of his Jeep that he is working on in his driveway. The bolts are of little value but bolts missing can cause extreme damage to the vehicle. Report taken for information purposes.

. December 8, 3: 29 a.m., 5800-block of Ladner Trunk Road: Report received that three youths with open bottles of alcohol were in front of a fast food restaurant.

Police located the youths and the alcohol was poured out at the scene. The males, who were not intoxicated, were warned and left the area without incident.

. December 8, 6: 30 p.m., 5200-block of 57th Street: Complainant reported someone wrote obscenities with black marker across the front and rear doors of her vehicle sometime overnight while it was parked in front her residence. No witnesses or suspects in the incident.
