The province recently unveiled options for the George Massey Tunnel replacement as the another phase of the public consultation process got underway. Among the options were maintaining the existing tunnel, a new tunnel, a new bridge, twin the existing tunnel with a bridge or maintain the existing tunnel and add a tunnel or bridge at 80th Street in Delta and No. 8 Rd. in Richmond. The Optimist asked:
Terry Christian
It should be both. The tunnel was designed for the village of Ladner and the village of Tsawwassen. Cleaning up the tunnel is just a joke, it's still the tunnel, still the same lanes, still the same slow-ups.
Sharon Davis
It's desperately in need of replacing, not upgrading. It's not wide enough. Either or; a tunnel and a bridge or a bridge. I used to travel quite a bit and it was because of the tunnel that I switched to a job closer to home.
Paul Chase
I think a bridge at No. 8 Road would take pressure off the tunnel. If that took a lot of the heavy traffic away from the tunnel, like the truck traffic, which is terrible - trucks everywhere.
Doug Brackman
Keep the tunnel and add a bridge.
Jane Maxwell
Upgrades to the tunnel. But of course to keep people out of their cars you have to have improved public transport. But upgrades could be done right away.
