Delta Police and Search and Rescue are searching the waters and surrounding areas of Centennial Beach looking for a missing woman from Surrey.

DPD say Wenyan Lan, age 54, has not returned from a planned solo excursion to go crabbing/clam digging in the Tsawwassen area.

Lan’s family first reported her missing to the Surrey RCMP on Monday. She is believed to have gone crabbing late in the morning, or in the afternoon that day.

DPD officers joined the search for Wenyan on Monday night when her car was located at Centennial Beach. Search and Rescue was engaged and continued searching throughout the night.

“Our officers assisted with a number of aspects of the investigation the night of June 14, including canvassing nearby residents,” says DPD spokesperson Cris Leykauf.

Leykauf said Search and Rescue resumed their efforts on Tuesday morning. The Coast Guard Hovercraft also joined the search over the waters of Centennial Bay.

“The area is known for extensive tidal flats, so our officers have also been walking out in the water conducting search efforts today,” added Leykauf. “Unfortunately there has been no sign of her to date.”

DPD has now assumed conduct of this missing person investigation and will be using other techniques to aid in the search, including the department’s drones.

Whatcom County has also been advised.

Lan is described as: 5’3” tall, approximately 100 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. She is believed to be wearing hip waders and carrying gear associated to crabbing.

DPD are asking anyone who believe they may have seen Lan or have information that could aid this investigation to call police at 604-946-4411.
