'05 Giants win Challenge Cup

The 2005 Vancouver Junior Giants enjoyed a successful run to capture their division at the recent 21st annual Challenge Cup. The team played five games in four days, eventually meeting the Colorado Thunderbirds in the final.

The 2005 Vancouver Junior Giants enjoyed a successful run to capture their division at the recent 21st annual Challenge Cup.

The team played five games in four days, eventually meeting the Colorado Thunderbirds in the final. The Thunderbirds led 2-1 after the second period. The short break rejuvenated the Giants and they came out in the third energized and eventually came through with a 4-3 win. The Challenge Cup featured some of the best talent in B.C. for the 2005 age group.

The team includes: Jack Callow, Kinley DeBoer, Charlie Derrheim, Cooper Fitton, Grady Lenton, Nicholas Jacobs, Brady MacDonald, William McColman, Mathias McDonnell, Riley Neaves, Mason Roberts, Will Saleken, Tristan Scouras and Owen Venier. The coaching staff features head coach Jim Scouras and assistants Adam McDonnell, Brent Derrheim, Doug Roberts, Syd Lenton, Jordie Jacobs, Mark McColman and Brinsley Saleken.

The Vancouver Junior Giants is a spring hockey program supported by the WHL Vancouver Giants and is based out of South Delta.

The program is created and directed by Lawson "Boots" Boutilier. The focus is on skill development. Players are taught the importance of hard work, leadership, respect, discipline and sportsmanship both on and off the ice.
