The Delta Pacers drive for their first-ever B.C. title has pre-maturely ended at the provincial "AAA" senior boys volleyball championships in Kelowna.

The province's fifth ranked team was surprised by Eric Hamber in four games (25-20, 25-20, 23-25, 28-26) in the round of 16 on Thursday afternoon. The result means the Pacers can finish no better than ninth in the 20-team tournament with consolation games slated for Friday and Saturday.

Delta went 2-1 in round-robin seeding play on Wednesday with wins over Mt. Bouchiere and Penicton, and a loss to Moscrop.

Meanwhile the No. 1 ranked South Delta Sun Devils are off to an impressive start at the senior girls "AAAA" championships in Port Coquitlam.

The Sun Devils went 3-0 in pool play with straight set wins over Terry Fox, North Peace and GP Vanier. The championship round is scheduled to get underway on Friday morning at 10 a.m.

The gold medal match is slated for Saturday at 6:30 p.m. at Riverside secondary school.
