The defending provincial champion '96 Delta Heat girls fastpitch team is off to an impressive start this season in league and tournament play.

Despite a few injuries, the girls are stronger than ever - rolling to an 8-1-1 record in regular season action, along with three tournament victories.

Delta captured gold at the Softball City Spring Classic (April 27-29), the Sidewiders Invitational in Redmond, WA (May 4-6) and most recently, the North Delta Invitational (May 11-13) where the team showed its support for breast cancer awareness by wearing pink uniforms.

The Heat are producing results thanks to great offensive hitting and defensive play.

The team includes: pitchers Carolyn Thoveson, Francais Olexa, Holly Speers and Marley Parker; catchers Haili Pettifer, Jennifer Linde and Lexie Brenneis; and fielders Kaitlin Fraser, Kennedy Bailey, Mackenzie Welsh, Montana Turnovitski, Paige Harbord and Siara Couper.

The coaching staff of Bill Olexa and Bob Houtman, along with manager David Linde, will be looking for their team to keep building momentum, leading up to the provincial championships in July where they will hope for a repeat performance.
