Athletics shine in Okanagan sun to win Rutland tourney

What a difference a week can make the Tsawwassen Athletics Bantam AA baseball team.

A week after finishing third at their own tournament, the A's travelled to the Okanagan where they went undefeated in five games to take top honours in Rutland.

They capped the impressive run with a come-from-behind 13-11 victory over a determined team from Prince George. The event also featured teams from Burnaby, Nelson, Prince George, Rutland, and West Kelowna.

The locals overcame adversity in several games resulting from early inning errors. The team had only nine players available all weekend with several get-ting hit by pitches or on the base paths. Every player had their shining moments in contributing to the team's success. The goal for the Tsawwassen team is to have a strong summer baseball season in order to return to Rutland in August for the provincial championships.

The A's line-up includes: Travis Pink, Ryan Scarr, Jacob Hampton, Tyler Lauinger, Nick Laviolette, Sam Thornley, Cam Lewis, Eric Hebbard and Chris Pope. Players missing with injurys; Alex Davis and Petro Chountalos. The team is coached by Steve Pink, Norm Hampton, John Braaten, Neil Pope and Mike Scarr. A big thanks to the parents who took care of the scorekeeping and pitch counts.
