It was a banner season for the South Delta Atom A2 Storm hockey team.
The rep squad will have three banners hanging in their honour at the Ladner Leisure Centre, thanks to a couple of championships and a team achievement award.
South Delta won the PCAHA Fraser Valley Flight #3 regular season title, edging out Mission A1 for top honours. The Storm then tested their talent south of the border at the Tri-City Americans President's Day Rep Tournament. The locals went undefeated into the final where they came out on top 8-6 against the Tri-Cities Major team.
South Delta then had a quick turnaround for the Final Four playoffs in Chilliwack where an opportunity to earn another award ended with a 4-0 loss to Mission.
At the Storm's last practice of the season, the team was presented with its third banner - the PCAHA Flight 3 Team Achievement Award. This is awarded to the team who has low penalty minutes, shows good sportsmanship and discipline throughout the season. The Storm ended their 20 game season with only 88 penalty minutes, while competing against six teams in their tier with penalties minutes ranging from 146 to 207.
The A2 Storm's line up included goaltenders - Josh Issler and Nelson Griffiths; defensemen Carson Hemenway, Sevak Jassar, Mathew Morison, Rhys Saleken, Hayden Tuba and Mathew Willford and forwards - Chase Boutilier, Van Lupien, Carter McColman, Tristan McLean, Rhys Porteous, Caelan Ramage, Alex Scouras, Aiden Van Poelgeest and Max Yingling.
The coaching staff consisted of Lawson "Boots" Boutilier and assistants Chad Dey, Mark McColman; Jim Scouras; Blair Tuba and manager Nancy Morison.
"The team worked very hard developing their skills; teamwork and discipline and they reaped the rewards," said Boutilier.
"The boys loved playing together, they trust each other and it showed on the ice."
