The Ladner Bantam Red Sox got the all-star baseball team season off to an impressive start by capturing last weekend's Diane Cook Memorial Tournament in Newton.

The team displayed strong pitching and hitting to run the table by going 5-0 over the three-day tournament.

The weekend started slow with the opening game against the host Newton team.

Ladner trailed 4-2 entering the seventh inning when it exploded for eight runs en route to a 10-4 victory.

Next up was a pair of games that produced 13-4 and 14-0 results over Abbotsford and Burnaby respectively.

The semi-final matchup was against a very strong Cloverdale team. Ladner's pitching was outstanding during this tense, well-played game that saw the locals prevail 3-2.

The final was a rematch against Abbotsford.

Ladner jumped out early with strong hitting and good defensive play. Every time Abbotsford would rally, the Red Sox would add a few runs to regain their cushion which led to the eventual 8-6 win.

Overall, everyone contributed in some way and made this a true team effort and victory. The roster includes: Alex Costin, Kyle McLennan, Bhavan Dhaliwal, Josh Robinson, Ole Hatlelid, Greg Scott, Justin MacKenzie, Mackenzie Falk, Chris Beisick, Aidan Phagura, Tyler Andrews, Gord Cooper, Hayden Bowers and Drake Carruthers.

The Red Sox are coached by Ray Beisick, Trevor Falk, Brian Yamasaki and Gary Cooper.
