Beach Grove's Hughes second in MLJT event

Beach Grove's Austin Hughes concluded the 2012 Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour B.C. swing on a high note with a runner-up finish at recent the Prodigy One-Day Series, hosted by the Pagoda Ridge Golf Club in Langley.

Hughes and Victor Baptiste of Oliver finished tied for top spot in the Boys 17-19 Division after the 17-year-olds carded 75s. Baptiste was awarded his second straight Tour victory on retrogression. Vernon's Chris McEachran-Law finished one shot back in third.

The event featured a full field of junior golfers battling a great new course in four different age divisions.

Other local scores included Charlie Thompson, another Beach Grove junior member, finishing 28th after firing an 82 in the 47-player Boys 14-16 Division.

The 2012 Maple Leaf Junior Tour will officially come to an end next month in Phoenix, AZ at the MJT Boston Pizza National Tour Championship, hosted by the Legacy Golf Resort.

The event will feature the top players from across the country based on the Cleveland Golf Order of Merit points.
