An impressive 3-under opening round sent Delta's Max Osten on his way to victory at the Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour's latest stop at the Northview Golf and Country Club.

Max Osten used a sizzling opening round to propel him to victory on the Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour’s (MJT) latest stop at the Northview Golf and Country Club in Surrey.

The 16-year-old from Delta opened with a 3-under 69 on the Northview’s Par-72 6,644-yard Canal Course and went on to take Juvenile Boys Division honours at the MJT Odlum Brown Classic. Osten closed with rounds of 74-74, including the final 18 on Northview’s Ridge Course, to hold off Burnaby’s Eden Kim and Vancouver’s Jerry Li by one shot.

“It feels good to win the title this week,” said Osten, who plays out of the Richmond Country Club and earlier placed third at the Beach Grove Junior Championship.  “It has been a long season for me as I was dealing with a back injury that sidelined me for a couple weeks.”

The highlight of his opening round was an eagle on the par-4 11th hole. His bogey-free round also included three birdies.

Osten also was recognized with the TaylorMade Award for the longest drive in his division.

The next MJT event in B.C. is at the Chilliwack Golf and Country Club next week.
