A record 332 entries hit the local waters for Delta Deas Rowing Club’s 32nd Scholastic Regatta last weekend.

The pandemic had put the event on pause for two years but the momentum has returned and then some. The regatta attracted teams from Renton, WA., Vancouver Island and throughout Metro Vancouver for two days of racing on the Deas Slough.

DDRC’s junior program has been growing in leaps in bounds with teens wanted to take up this terrific sport and it was evident in the results.

The hosts captured six of the 13 finals and were third in three others.

Notable races included Natalia Wrobel capturing her singles event in the U15 category, while Tamoki Martin did the same in U19 men singles.

Martin and a solid contingent of DDRC rowers are in St. Catherine’s, ON this weekend for the 76th edition of the Canadian Secondary Schools Rowing Championships, taking place on the renowned Royal Canadian Henley Regatta Course.
