A pair of Delta rep girls soccer teams are taking their seasons to this weekend’s Coastal Cup Championships and beyond.

Delta Coastal Selects 2005 are making sure their final campaign in youth soccer is a memorable one. The Metro League squad has advanced to the U18 “A” Cup Final in Maple Ridge thanks to a 3-1 triumph over the Coquitlam Metro Ford Shockwave last Sunday at Dugald Morrison Park.

The Selects will now meet the West Vancouver Rangers in the title game, slated for 4 p.m. on Sunday. Their run to the final also included a 2-0 victory over the Fraser Valley Selects in the quarter-finals.

For the second straight season, Delta is also headed to the Provincial “A” Cup Championships, slated for Canada Day Weekend at South Surrey Athletic Park.

U14 2009 Delta Coastal Selects are also headed back to South Surrey this summer to defend their Provincial Cup title thanks to their semi-final victory last weekend in North Delta. The Selects continued their outstanding season with a 1-0 win over the Port Coquitlam Reign.

The girls will now play the Fraser Valley Selects in the U14 Coastal “A” Cup final in Maple Ridge. It’s a battle of the top two teams in regular season play with Delta going unbeaten (14-0-1) in B.C. Coastal Soccer League Division One play, while Fraser Valley posted a 12-1-2 record.

It was the Reign that ended Delta’s Coastal Cup title hopes a year ago in a semi-final loss in penalty kicks, only to return the favour 12 months later. The Selects also defeated the Reign in the Provincial Cup final, 2-1.

Meanwhile, U17 South Delta United is hoping to extend its season to July and the Les Sinnot Memorial Provincial “B” Cup Boys Championship in Langley when it takes on Coastal FC Saturday for third place.

United dropped a semi-final heartbreaker in penalty kicks to Langley United last weekend after impressive earlier wins over AKAL Barcelona (5-2) and South Burnaby (8-2).
