Impressive debut for Delta Thistle Curling Club rink in Cranbrook

It was a bronze medal finish for Delta Thistle’s Team Daniels at the 2020 BC Scotties Women’s Curling Championships in Cranbrook.

Daniels bowed out of contention on Saturday night with an 11-5 semi-final loss to eventual champion Team Brown from Kamloops.

Daniels, 20, and her team of Kayla McMillan (third), Holly Horvat (second) and Sarah Loken (lead) finished round-robin play with a 4-3 record, then dispatched Team Richards from Kelowna 10-5 on Saturday afternoon in the Page Playoff Format 3-4 game.

Daniels and Loken also won bronze at last month’s BC Junior Championships. McMillan previously curled with Daniels in junior

“This is the first ladies’ provincial for the three of us, so it’s just really awesome to be in the playoffs to begin with and to be coming home with a medal is top of our list for the season this year,” said Daniels, a graduate of Seaquam Secondary.

Rounding out the team is Horvat — a three-time former Ontario junior champion who is married to Vancouver Canucks captain Bo Horvat. The couple are expecting their first child in July.

Daniels was playing catch-up from the get go against Brown in the semi-final — surrendering three in the first end and another three in the third. It was 6-2 when Brown added four in the fifth.

Round-robin play included Daniels falling 10-9 to defending champion Team Wark on Thursday in 11 ends.
