The Winskill Dolphins Swim Club had a number of outstanding performances at last weekend's Provincial Short Course Championships in Surrey.

The Dolphins sent four competitors and each one collected medals, including two first-time medalists, two first-time champions, and two first-time AAA qualifiers.

Starting off the meet, Rachel Yeo (14) shattered her previous best time in the 800m freestyle by 14 seconds, claiming her first gold medal of the championships. She would follow up the dominant performance with two more victories in 200m and 400m freestyle events. Her winning 800 time of 9: 58, qualifies her for the Provincial "AAA" Championships in Victoria later this month.

A rookie at "AA" championships, Duco Shuurman Hess (13) shaved an impressive seven seconds off his 200m breaststroke best time to capture the silver medal. Hungry for more, Hess returned on the final day of competition to score another silver in 100m breaststroke, also qualifying him for "AAA" championships.

Isaiah Rusak-Gillrie (13) won bronze in 1500m and 200m freestyle - which was a five second improvement over his previous best rime . He also finished top eight in 200m breaststroke and 400m freestyle.

Alex Zhang (16) handily won gold in 200m IM with personal best time and added silver medals in the 100m backstroke and butterfly events. He capped off the competition with a bronze in 100m free.

"It was a great confidence builder for the swimmers, going into this meet having done the work and seeing that work pay off," said Winskill coach Amy Canuel. "We had some real breakthroughs this weekend and we are already looking ahead to the next championship meet!"
