Former Delta Deas Rowing Club member and Ladner native Paul Hawksworth has been named Interim Program Manager for Rowing Canada's para-rowing program.

Hawksworth had been an assistant coach in the national team program and was previously invaluable to the University of Victoria in the area of athlete recruitment and development. He has a particular passion for para-rowing as the twin brother of an active and disabled man who has never let physical barriers stand in his way of success.

"I'm excited to take on this new role within Rowing Canada," said Hawksworth who will be based out of Ottawa. "Thanks to the hard work of many, para-rowing in Canada has tremendous support, and will compete against the very best. It's great to be a part of that."

Hawksworth has already hit the ground running and is looking at novel methods for recruitment, building Canada's roster of national classifiers, educating RCA coaches on para-rowing and linking with other disability sports and organizations.

During this transition, he will work with Jeff Dunbrack, former lead para-rowing coach who is now the Program Manager, High Performance, at the Canadian Paralympic Committee, and continues to provide mentorship and support. He will also be working closely with Martin George, the provincial adaptive coach in B.C.
