Homegrown talent lead Delta Hockey Academy to playoff title

A hat trick from Damian Kravcak powered Delta Hockey Academy’s Green team to the Canadian School Sport Hockey League U15 Prep playoff champion.

The 15-year-old from Tsawwassen capped a terrific post-season with his three-goal performance as DHA defeated Kelowna’s RINK Academy 7-3 in Tuesday’s championship game played at the Okanagan Training Centre in Penticton.

Kravcak started a four-goal second period outburst at the 5:51 mark of the second period as DHA erased a 2-1 deficit. He completed his hat trick midway through the third and also chipped in with an assist.

He finished the playoff tournament with nine points, including six goals, as DHA Green produced five consecutive wins. Kravcak earlier posted 22 points in 23 regular season games, including 12 goals.

Goaltender Armaan Kaila, another local product, was terrific in net with 40 saves. He finished the playoffs with a .935 save percentage and a 1.80 goals against average while starting each game.

DHA’s run to the title also included wins over Burnaby Winter Club (5-1), Pacific Coast Hockey Academy (1-0), RINK Academy Winnipeg (4-1) and Edge School Prep Calgary (5-4).

Other Delta players on the DHA Green roster includes Owen Cooper, Jack Ferguson, Zephaniah Giam, and Mitchell Pearce. The team also features Jackson DeGraves (Edmonton), Marco DePedrina (Abbotsford), Isa Guram (Burnaby), Chase Harrington (Prince George), Kaleb Hartmann (Langley), Joshua Lee (North Vancouver), Ryan Lin (Richmond), Jakob Oreskovic (Langley), Zachary Pantelakis (North Vancouver), Dane Pyatt (Langley), Jovan Sandhu (Surrey) and Will Shepard (West Vancouver) and Dalton Toma (Langley). The team is coached by Kris Beech.

DHA nearly added as second CSSHL playoff title with the U18 prep girls falling 3-2 to Kelowna’s RINK Academy in the final. DHA’s line-up includes Point Roberts and USA U18 national team blueliner Ava Svejkovsky who chipped in with one assist.
