The host Storm avenged an earlier loss to reach the podium at South Delta Minor Hockey Association’s (SDMHA) U13A1 Winter Showcase at the Ladner Leisure Centre last weekend.
The eight-team tournament resumed followed a two-year pandemic pause with three days of action culminating with Sunday’s gold and bronze medal games.
The Storm trimmed Surrey A1 Thunder 3-2 after the visitors prevailed 2-1 on Saturday morning to conclude round-robin play.
West Vancouver skated away as tournament champions after grabbing the last semi-final spot then producing wins over Surrey (5-1) and Mission (4-2) in the title game.
South Delta opened the Showcase with a pair of wins on Friday, skating past the Squamish Eagles (7-1) and the Seattle Kraken (6-4).
Next on the SDMHA event calendar is the Ken Elmer Memorial Tournament, Feb. 17 to 20. It was last year the association announced the re-naming of the long-running Party In Da House Tournament after the former long-time volunteer executive who lost his battle with cancer in November 2021. His wife Kellie also served on the SDMHA executive for many years.
The tournament features all of SDMHA “C” teams, including girls, from the U11, U13, U15 and U18 divisions. The event has also shifted to coincide with the B.C. Family Day Weekend.
