Inaugural Delta Firefighters Classic tips-off Sunday in Tsawwassen

Event showcases high school basketball in the city and gives student athletes an opportunity to learn more about a career as a Delta firefighter
The inaugural Delta Firefighters Classic takes place on Sunday at South Delta Secondary in Tsawwassen. The line-up of games includes South Delta taking on Seaquam with both currently in the top 10 of the provincial AAAA rankings.

Thirteen of the city’s senior high school basketball teams will be showcased as part of the inaugural Delta Firefighters Classic on Sunday, Jan. 15 at South Delta Secondary in Tsawwassen.

The play day will feature seven games, starting at 10:30 a.m. with the SDSS west and east gyms hosting games.

“The main purpose of the event is to have an opportunity to expose some of our graduating student athletes to the fire service, as well as promote our inaugural Youth Fire Academy venture with the school district,” said a news release about the event.

The schedule includes the South Delta Sun Devils and Seaquam Seahawks senior girls teams squaring off. Both are currently ranked among the top 10 in the province at the 4A level.

The North Delta Huskies senior boys team will be take on the Delta Pacers. The Huskies have been among the top teams in the province the past few years and sit at No. 5 in the latest AAA rankings.

The complete line-up of games includes:

10:30 a.m. Senior Boys: Sands vs. Delview, west gym.

11:45 a.m. Senior Girls: Delta vs. South Delta, east gym.

12:15 p.m. Senior Boys: North Delta vs. Delta, west gym.

1:30 p.m. Senior Girls: North Delta vs. Burnsview, east gym.

2 p.m. Senior Boys: Burnsview vs. Sands, west gym.

3:45 p.m. Senior Girls: Seaquam vs. South Delta, west gym.

5:30 p.m. Senior Boys: Seaquam vs. South Delta, west gym.
