Host Ladner Red Sox finished with a dominant 11-0-1 record in Lower Mainland qualifying play for B.C. Minor Baseball's Provincial 18U AA Championships that get underway on Thursday at Cromie Park. They will be joined by Vancouver Minor, Vancouver Community, Tsawwassen and Vernon.

The Ladner Red Sox will be looking to cap off a dominant summer season in style when they host B.C. Minor Baseball’s 18U AA Provincial Championships, starting today at Cromie Park.

The five-team event will feature three days of round-robin action and culminates with the gold medal game on Sunday at 1 p.m.

The Red Sox were already guaranteed spot in the tournament as the host association but there was little in the way of complacency when it came to the league playdowns. Ladner finished on top of the 13-team Lower Mainland league with a 12-1-0 record to earn the No. 1 seed.

Besides the impressive league run, the Red Sox also finished second at the recent Valley of the Champions Tournament in Kelowna, losing to an Alberta academy team in the final.

Rounding out the teams at Cromie are the other top three finishers in league play — Vancouver Community (10-1-1), Vancouver Minor (9-3-0) and Tsawwassen (8-4-0) — along with Vernon. Tsawwassen edged North Shore for the final Lower Mainland spot thanks to a 12-0 win over Abbotsford on Monday, its third straight victory.
