Tsawwassen's Peggy Noel has been recognized for her impressive freshman season so far with the Simon Fraser University cross-country team.

The 18-year-old South Delta secondary graduate was named Student Athlete Advisory Committee Athlete of the Week after her strong performance at the recent Emerald City Open where she placed seventh overall in a field of 83 runners.

Noel completed the six kilometre course in a time of 22: 45.4, helping SFU take top team honours.

Noel has been consistently improving throughout the season and finished only 10 seconds behind women's team captain Lindsay Butterworth, and 12 seconds behind Clan alumna and Olympian Jessica Smith.

She also turned in a impressive result at last weekend's Northwest Athletic Conference Championship meet in Monmouth, Oregon, placing 10th overall with a terrific clocking of 21: 28.06 over six kilometres.

SFU finished second behind perennial powerhouse Alaska Anchorage. Next up for Noel and her teammates is the West Regional Championships slated for Nov. 3 in Hawaii.
