Noel to continue running career at Simon Fraser

SDSS athlete excited about joining track program at Burnaby Mtn

South Delta Sun Devils running standout Peggy Noel will be continuing her career with the Simon Fraser University track and field program.

The Grade 12 student will specialize in the 800metre, 1500-metre, steeplechase and cross-country at SFU.

"I am really excited about joining such a high quality team," said Noel.

"Working with (coach) Brit (Townsend), and having the opportunity to train with some of the best middle distance runners in Canada is such a great opportunity. I really look forward to excelling at SFU."

Noel's long list of accomplishments includes being a member of the gold medalwinning B.C. team in cross country and top 10 finishes at the 2011 Canadian Youth Championships in the 800-metre and 1500-metre races.

She also finished third in those two events at the B.C. Youth Track and Field Championships in 2011.

Noel, who will be studying business at SFU with a minor in communications, has excelled in the classroom as well, earning her way onto the Principal's List for finishing Grade 11 with an average higher than 92 per cent.

At SDSS, she was named Athlete of the Year in 2011, Sportsperson of the Year in 2010 and Junior Athlete of the Year 2009.

"I'm happy to be able to get a great education and be part of an excellent athletic program that competes in the NCAA," said Noel.

"Being able to stay on the West Coast is also great. I was really impressed with the great team atmosphere at SFU and how successful people have been that have gone to Simon Fraser."
