The Delta Pacers begin their quest for a provincial tournament berth tonight with a do-or-die game to open the Fraser Valley AAA Boys Basketball Championships.

The Pacers have been seeded 15th in the 32-team event and will take on No. 18 North Surrey Spartans at Walnut Grove secondary in Langley.

A win would move the Pacers onto the 16-team double knockout stage with eight B.C. berths up for grabs. Their probable round of 16 opponent would be No. 2 Walnut Grove.

Delta is coming off a strong showing at last week's Fraser Valley Southwest League playoff tournament where the Ladner school finished third after a 61-57 victory over North Delta on Friday.

The Pacers entered the tourney seeded fifth and produced an impressive 62-37 win over fourth seed Panorama Ridge. They also hung tough with top five ranked Tamanawis, losing the semi-final tilt 81-71.

The Spartans finished fifth in the Fraser Valley North playoffs. They fell 56-46 to Gleneagle in the quarter-finals, then got past Pinetree (61-44) and Fraser Heights (59-46).
