Pee Wee Storm girls team avenge earlier loss to capture gold at Kelowna tournament

A dramatic finish earned the South Delta Storm Pee Wee girls hockey team the gold medal at the recent Kelowna Spring Breakaway Tournament. The Storm avenged an earlier round-robin loss to Langley with a 4-3 victory in the championship game.

The Storm avenged an earlier round-robin loss to Langley with a 4-3 victory in the championship game.

Langley entered the final as the favourite, having not surrendering a goal the entire weekend, including a 2-0 result against South Delta. The Storm earned its spot in the gold medal game with a wins over Penticton (4-2) and Kelowna (3-1).

The local girls came ready to play as Megan Wilson ended the shutout streak in the opening period. Langley answered with consecutive goals but the Storm continued to push the pace of play and were rewarded with goals late in the second period from Justine Geboers and Paisley Wallace.

Langley pulled even during the early stages of the third but Megan Wilson scored her second of the game with just 26 seconds left to give South Delta a 4-3 victory.

Goaltender Shannon Wilson was outstanding, earning player-of-the game honours.

The South Delta roster also included: Sarah Allan, Leigh Bourque, Hayley Cotter, Anna Everett, Kiki Linders, Cameron Perry, Annalise Poohachoff, Caitlin Price, Jenna Tipping, Georgia Walley and Juliana White.

Coaching staff consisted of Jake Geboers, Grant Wallace, Mike Cotter, Todd Perry and team manager Annie White.
