Soccer fans in the qathet region will continue to see the best Vancouver Island Soccer League (VISL) has to offer next season at Timberlane Park.
Powell River Villa faced a possible relegation to VISL Division 2 after finishing in ninth place in Division 1 following the 2023/2024 season.
“We received word from VISL that we have avoided relegation and retained our spot in Division 1 for next season,” said Villa manager Chris McDonough.
Villa actually finished in a tie for eighth place in points, with 18, but Victoria Highlanders were given the higher placement due to having more wins.
Highlanders collected their 18 points through a record of six wins and 12 losses. Villa had fewer losses (10) and earned the same number of points with five wins and three ties.
Villa won its final home match of the season over Westcastle International Academy on March 2, and finished the campaign with a road win two weeks later.
The 2024/2025 VISL season begins in September.
