Red Sox capture tourney

The annual Diane Cook tournament was held over the July long weekend in Newton, and for the second year in a row the Ladner Red Sox came away as champions. The Bantam baseball team displayed great pitching supported by excellent defence and hitting.

The annual Diane Cook tournament was held over the July long weekend in Newton, and for the second year in a row the Ladner Red Sox came away as champions.

The Bantam baseball team displayed great pitching supported by excellent defence and hitting. The effort the Ladner team put forward was a great start to the summer season.

The tournament started with a narrow victory over a strong Cloverdale team.

Cloverdale led through most of the game but the Red Sox scored five in the bottom of the seventh to pull out the win.

The second game against Surrey was far less dramatic as the Sox cruised to A hard-fought 4-1 decision over the Aldergrove Dodgers in the semi-finals sent the Red Sox to the finals for a rematch with the Cloverdale Spurs.

Ladner prevailed 7-6 in the final that featured some great defence, timely hitting and solid pitching.

The Red Sox roster includes: Gord Cooper, Mackenzie Falk, Daelen Magcalas, Jordan Dawson, Justin MacKenzie, Greg Scott, Jared Krueger, Matteo Corea, Tyler Andrews, Will Robinson, Thomas Costin, Drake Carruthers and Jackson Goodman. The team is coached by Trevor Falk, Jon Andrews, Brian Yamasaki and Ray Beisick.
