Schuss nets six in season debut

Homegrown star returns from Ohio State to lead Islanders to big win over Victoria

If the Delta Islanders were in need of an extra boost to take care of an early season nemesis then Logan Schuss was happy to oblige.

The dynamic right-hander from Ladner returned to Islanders line-up in dramatic fashion Saturday, scoring six times and adding two assists in a 16-7 home floor romp of the Victoria Shamrocks.

Schuss was coming off another outstanding field lacrosse season at Ohio State where he once again led the Buckeyes in scoring and collected plenty of hardware, including conference offensive player of the year, third team All-American and Big 10 All-Academic honours. Typically his return to box season has meant helping his team solidify a playoff spot. Not this time.

The win over Victoria leaves Delta with an 8-3-1 record and poised to take over top spot in the B.C. Junior "A" Lacrosse League with a win last night in Burnaby. The stage is also set for a huge mid-season showdown on Saturday (7: 30 p.m.) when the defending league champion Coquitlam Adanacs come to town in a battle of the country's second and fourth ranked teams respectively.

Schuss wasted no time in getting on the scoresheet, scoring on his opening shift as Delta race out to a 7-1 lead. It was the first win over the Shamrocks in three tries.

Mike Mallory added three goals and two assists, while Cody Nass continues to be a major force as call-up, producing six points, including a pair of goals. Sam Clare also had a big night with two goals and three assists. Team captain and Cody Hawkins had a goal and four helpers.
