SDSS football talent taking his career to Calgary

Defensive back will see plenty of familiar faces next fall

The South Delta Sun Devils’ talent pipeline to the University of Calgary Dinos football program continues to flow.

The defending Vanier Cup champions’ 2021 recruiting class includes SDSS defensive back Evan Davies. The 6-foot-3 200-pounder was a starter in his Grade 11 season as the Sun Devils spent much of the 2019 campaign atop the provincial 3A rankings. The current pandemic denied him his Grade 12 year when he was expected to be one of South Delta’s key returning players.

Davies will see plenty of familiar faces when he takes his career across the Rockies next fall. Former teammates Ben McDonald (quarterback), Evan Paterson (receiver) and Ethan Troniak (receiver) were all part of the Dinos’ 2020 recruiting class. The trio have yet to launch their university careers as COVID-19 also wiped out the 2020 U Sport season.

Calgary’s national championship team included SDSS graduates Charlie Moore, Grant McDonald and Jacob Kirk. Seaquam grads and twin brothers Jalen and Tyson Philpot add even more Delta flavor.

The Dinos’ 2021 recruiting class includes four other players from B.C.: Darren Baker (Windsor), Nate Beauchemin (Kelowna) and Gob Deng (Westside Community) and Deakon Young (New West).
