While the senior team is a win away from capturing the Fraser Valley Championship, the junior squad is also on quite a roll.

The Sun Devils went through Delta District League play with a perfect 5-0 record and also have their sights on winning a Valley championship.

South Delta clinched first place and top seed for the playoffs with a 4-0 victory last week over Burnsview.

Christine Howlett opened up the game with an early goal by beating the Burnsview keeper to a loose ball. Victoria Stephenson started the scoring off in the second half, followed by two more goals by Jessica Hasker. Defenders Kiersten Sawchuk, Leah Burns and Mieguen Butcher did an excellent job of shutting down Burnsview's offensive threats.

Midfielders Lauren Shirley, Vanessa Pearson, Gaby Raaby, Sammie Cole-McGilligan and Cheris Lee moved the ball effectively up the field. Forwards Lauren Boggs, Kendra Luckow and Jill Calvert worked hard to create many scoring opportunities.

Goalkeeping duties were shared by Katiana Lee and Chase MacDonald - for the shutout.

Kassia Hula and Lauren Joyce also play on the team, which is coached by Chris Boggs and managed by Cheryl Kristiansen.

The Sun Devils were slated to host Fleetwood Park in the Fraser Valley quarter-finals yesterday. A win would set up another home game on Thursday against Samuel Robertson or Sullivan Heights. The Valley championship game is slated next Tuesday with South Delta enjoying home field advantage throughout the tournament.
