The Delta Pacers and South Delta Sun Devils both face do-or-die matchups tonight in the first round of the Fraser Valley Championships.
Fifteenth seeded DSS will take on Heritage Woods at Walnut Grove while 16th seeded SDSS faces Clayton Heights in Pitt Meadows in senior boys basketball action.
DSS head coach Scott Masse said his team got a wake up call after losing to Elgin Park last week in the Fraser Valley Southwest League playoff tournament.
After that game the team talked about refocusing and re-examined the ingredients necessary to really compete as a group, said Masse, noting the group's effort level in the two tilts since then has been great.
"We're going to take the same approach to the game on Wednesday night. I think if we do all the things we've discussed as a group then the result will go in our favour. We're really looking forward to it," he said.
A win against Heritage Woods likely means a game against number two seed Walnut Grove on Friday.
SDSS has faced Clayton Heights once this season.
"I think it's a good match-up. We played them once this year and they didn't have their big kid. He's really a handful... he's their best player," said Sun Devils head coach James Johnston. "We handled them the first time we played them but I think it's going to be a pretty close game this time."
A win for SDSS would most likely earn a match-up with top-seeded Pitt Meadows on Friday.
The Fraser Valley Championships move away from single elimination after the first round.
