South Delta Midget A1 Storm was well-represented in the 36th annual Pacific Coast Amateur Hockey Association Scholarship Tournament.

The event is for graduating third-year players who exemplify good academics as well as sportsmanship.

Tryouts were held over three sessions to determine the Greater Vancouver zone rosters.

Storm members Jordan Hancock, Jesse Irving, Max Kozlowski, Joey Kishiuchi, Ben Shumka, Evan Grannary and Bobby Carswell were all selected.

Hancock, Irving, Kishiuchi and Shumka suited up for the Avalanche, while Gannery and Kozlowski were members of the Canucks.

They were joined by Keith Reid who plays for the Storm A2 squad.

Both teams went 1-2 in the round robin portion of the tournament, with the Avalanche beating the Canucks 97 after trailing 6-3 after two periods.

The bronze medal game was a repeat of the earlier meeting with the Avalanche once again behind 5-2 with 20 minutes to play.

Team Avalanche got third period goals from Hancock and Shumka to make it 5-4. A late tally from a mouth scramble led to the tying the game in the final minute of regulation

A deflected point shot four minutes into the overtime period made the improbable comeback complete for a second time, with the Avalanche capturing bronze bragging rights in an entertaining 6-5 overtime final.

Playing a solid two way game for the Canucks, Reid earned player of the game honours in a losing effort.

In a final bit of consolation for the Canucks, Evan Granery was selected as one of four tournament MVPs - receiving a $500 scholarship for his efforts.

He scored seven of the Canucks' 16 goals in the tournament.
