South Delta Rams continued their run in Vancouver Mainland Football League regular season play last weekend, producing some strong performances.

This Sunday, the club is hosting its annual Green and Gold Day at Dennison Park with games throughout the day and other festivities.

Here’s a rundown of last week’s action:

U8 Gold

The Rams travelled to Langley for their second game of the season. U8 Gold won their first game of the season backed by a solid defensive performance and a couple highlight reel plays.

Ryan Chatha threw a perfect seven-yard pass to Westen Jaeger who took the remaining 50-yards for a touchdown. Evan Kanda added a 40-yard major, showcasing his speed and elusiveness by juking past multiple defenders on his way to the end zone

Rocco Stein was a force on the defensive side of the ball, not allowing the Langley Bandits to gain any momentum on offence.

U8 Green

In their second road game of the season, the South Delta Rams U8 Green team faced the Richmond Raiders at Minoru Park. The Rams started off with a long touchdown run on their first drive and continued strong with a total of majors on the day, including Blake Mortensen’s first-ever touchdown. After a slow start on defence, the Rams came out strong in the second half and held the Raiders to two touchdowns. The rain held off and the players had a great time playing ball in the sun.

Atom Green

Atom Green travelled to Richmond to take on the Westside Warriors and continued their winning ways. Both teams’ defences controlled the game and didn’t allow either offence to find their rhythm. For the second week in a row, the Rams’ defence caused havoc and a second quarter pick-6 by Kai Hawkes was all that separated the two teams. Final score: South Delta Rams 16 Westside Warriors 7.

Pee Wee

The South Delta Peewee Rams kicked off their first game of the season with a 27-0 loss to the Cloverdale Bobcats in Cloverdale. The Rams have a team of 30 plus enthusiastic boys who played their very first tackle football game. The Rams finished defensively strong, holding the Bobcats to only one touchdown in the second half with solid performances by Zac Prokop, Quinn Kirincic and Hilton Stewart with multiple tackles. The Peewee Rams will play the rubber match this coming Sunday against the Bobcats at Dennison Park at 3.pm. and will plan for a better result.

Junior Bantam

This past Friday, the JB Rams were at it again, in another battle with the New West Hyacks. The defense started the game off strong, led by Willem Ter Keurs shedding blocks and making tackles all over the field. Sammy Pravica kept the defenders on their heels with his rush attack.

Rookie Matthew Rodgers had a great kick return to give the Rams excellent field position and continued to corral onside kicks all game long. David Olson had an incredible game at running back, before moving to wide receiver. He was also called to play QB.

First interception of the year came in the final quarter of the game at the hands of Jarred Brown. The team as a whole is bettering itself every week. This week's opponents are the Coquitlam Chargers at Dennison Park, 5:15 p.m. on Sunday.
