A trio of South Delta hockey players have been selected to participate in this week's 2012 U17 B.C. Cup in Salmon Arm.

Goaltender Nathan Alalouf, forward Mitch Walter and defenceman Phoenix Worth are among 120 of the top 1996-born players in the province who are taking part in this prestigious event which gets underway tonight.

The jamboree style tournament features six teams competing with the players randomly mixed up. The B.C. Cup helps identify player to participate in stage two of the B.C. Hockey Male Under High Performance Program which is a provincial camp being held in July.

Alalouf and Walter played this past season for the Greater Vancouver Canadians of the B.C. Major Midget Hockey League. Worth was a member of the South Delta Midget AAA Storm but also was a regular call-up with the Canadians throughout the season.

Other members of the Canadians participating include Tyler Sandhu, Shaun Dosanjh,

Alec Dawydiak and Austin Adamson, all graduates of Seafair Minor Hockey. Josh Murphy was also selected, while head coach Leland Mack will be behind the bench of Team Stars.

Following the provincial camp, a shortlist will be created as potential players for Team Pacific which competes in the World Under 17 Challenge as a split squad featuring B.C. and Alberta talent. The roster will be announced sometime in the fall.

Prior to heading to the World U17 Hockey

Challenge, the Team Pacific players will participate in both a Christmas Camp and Prestaging Camp. These camps are specifically geared towards player development, team systems and team building. In the last five events, Team Pacific has walked away with a bronze medal and four silver medals.

Past South Delta Minor Hockey alumni to play for Team Pacific include Brent Seabrook, Brandon McMillan, Brendan Gallagher and Macoy Erkamps, who was a member of the 2011 squad.
