Sport B.C. will honour 10 dedicated sport leaders from Delta next week with its Community Sport Hero Awards.

The public award ceremony, hosted at The Coast Tsawwassen Inn, celebrates the contributions of long-time community sport volunteers. Mayor Lois Jackson will be in attendance to present the winners with their awards and a gift from the Community Sport Heroes Awards' official apparel provider, FIRSTAR Sports Inc.

The recipients are: Lyle Gatley (rowing), Len Stroh (multi-sport), Angie Schwan (lacrosse), Cliff Lane (softball), Joy Fera (rowing), Lynette Baldock (Action Schools), Heather Hamlin (hockey), Maurice Hamilin (hockey), Bruce Ferguson (judo) and Dawn Williams (skating).

"The Community Sport Hero Awards are a celebration of volunteers who have contributed eight or more years to sport," said Carey Summerfelt, Event Manager of Sport B.C. "Sport is crucial to the development of strong, healthy communities, and community volunteers, like the 10 scheduled to be honoured, are essential to that success."

The public is invited to help celebrate these individuals at the ceremony, beginning at 6 p.m. This is the first visit to Delta since the program's inception in 2001. Delta is the second stop for the Community Sport Hero Awards in 2012.
