For perhaps the first time this season, the South Delta Sun Devils secondary will need to be on high alert come Saturday afternoon at B.C. Place Stadium.
After facing a pair of run-oriented teams in playoff wins over Rick Hansen and John Barsby Bulldogs, the defending provincial "AA" champion Mission Roadrunners will provide a much different challenge.
The Sun Devils will have to respect the running ability of second-year starting quarterback Kevin Weins who rushed for three touchdowns, including a 34-yard scamper, in a 28-27 semi-final win over the Ballenas Whalers. Weins can also throw the ball, evident by the nearly 500 yards of passing and six majors he put up in conference play.
"We are similar teams in a lot of ways," said Sun Devils head coach Ray Moon. "He is a good athletic quarterback, they have a couple of receivers that can hurt you and a good running back as well.
"I think you are going to see more of a wide open affair compared to the last couple of weeks. We feel we are pretty decent in the secondary and with our linebacking core too. It's going to be a good challenge."
Kickoff is slated for 3 p.m.
