It has the potential of being the biggest night of athletic achievements in the history of South Delta secondary school.

While the Sun Devils will be attempting to capture the provincial football championship at B.C. Place Stadium Saturday afternoon, the senior girls volleyball team will be in Port Coquitlam trying to win the school's first-ever provincial senior volleyball championship.

South Delta heads into the 16 team "AAAA" event on a tremendous roll, having won three tournaments in the past five weeks, including its first-ever Fraser Valley title with a four set win over No. 3 ranked Heritage Woods in the championship match. The Sun Devils took over the number one ranking earlier in the month with a first place finish at the Red Surge Classic at Riverside secondary, the same school hosting the provincials.

Round-robin play gets underway Thursday morning with the Devils in a group that includes GP Vanier (Courtenay), Terry Fox and North Peace (Fort St. John). The championship round starts Friday and the gold medal match is slated for 6: 30 p.m. on Saturday.
