Trevor Linden special guest at DSS Teachers vs. Grads hockey game

A Vancouver Canucks legend and arguably their most all-time popular player will be a special guest when one of the biggest events of the school year at Delta secondary takes place next Wednesday (Jan. 25) at the Ladner Leisure Centre.

A Vancouver Canucks legend and arguably their most all-time popular player will be a special guest when one of the biggest events of the school year at Delta secondary takes place next Wednesday (Jan. 25) at the Ladner Leisure Centre.

Trevor Linden will drop the puck for the ceremonial face-off for at the seventh annual DSS Grads versus Teachers hockey game. The contest, which started as a fund raiser to help offset grad function events for students, has evolved into a popular event with a crowd of 800 anticipated for next week's showdown.

The all-time series stands at 3-3 so expect a night of exciting action and fun. The Teachers team will once again by relying on the parents of graduating students to help fill their roster and this year's squad will be impressive with three of Ladner's most accomplished hockey players scheduled to participate. Former NHLer Ken Priestlay, B.C. Hockey League all-time leading scorer Shane Kuss and UBC hall-of-famer Bill Holowaty will bolster a teacher line-up that includes Todd Allan and Shell Thompson.

"There's only about five of us on staff who play, if you want to call it that, so we need all the help we can get," laughed Allan who has participated in each of the six previous six games. "It really has become a big community event and the grads have done a great job of organizing and promoting it."

Tickets for the game are currently on sale at the DSS office for $5 or can be purchased at the door for $7.
