Tsawwassen blueliner starts sr. season by earning player of the week honours

Tsawwassen's Mike Boivin has been named Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA) Defensive Player of the Week for his work on the blueline for the Colorado College Tigers.

Tsawwassen's Mike Boivin has been named Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA) Defensive Player of the Week for his work on the blueline for the Colorado College Tigers.

The 6-foot-1, 190-pound senior helped the Tigers to a two-game season-opening sweep of Clarkson. Boivin contributed a pair of key assists, fired 12 shots on goal and earned a +1 rating as 19th ranked Colorado College recorded a pair of 5-4 victories over the visiting Golden Knights.

In the series opener, Boivin setup Jeff Collett's second period shorthanded goal that gave Colordao a 2-1 lead and had three shots on goal. A day later, he assisted on William Rapuzzi's game-winning goal and had a game-high nine shots as the Tigers completed the series sweep after rallying from 2-1 and 4-3 deficits.

The South Delta Minor Hockey graduate has played 82 career games at Colorado and has contributed 40 points. Prior to earning his scholarship, Boivin played in the B.C. Hockey League with Nanaimo.
