Tsawwassen striker shines for U13 Team BC in Calgary

Maggie Laroque scores four goals and earns spot on on all-star team as BC rolls to top spot in tournament

Tsawwassen's Maggie Laroque had a leading role in Team BC going undefeated in the U13 girls division at the Prairie Invitational Soccer Championships in Calgary.

The 13-year-old striker produced four goals as BC battled its way to victories over Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta North and Alberta South.

The BC girls finished the championships with 14 goals and surrendered none. Laroque 's outstanding play earned her a spot in the Umbro Challenge All-Star Game which wrapped up the tournament.

That match was scoreless through regulation and went to penalty kicks which saw Laroque convert the winning goal.

"Maggie has been an absolute privilege to coach. Her work ethic and technical skills give her the potential to grow into a great soccer player," said Team BC head coach Lee Tregonning.

"Maggie wasn't just picked just on her soccer skills but also her leadership qualities in which she captained the team several times. She did BC proud."

Larocque showed her potential at an early enough age to make the jump from the Tsawwassen Soccer Club to the B.C. Premier Soccer League (high performance) a

year ahead of schedule as a member of Coastal F.C. She helped Coastal produce an undefeated (8-0-4) record in league play this past season and a runner-up finish to Mountain FC in the Provincial Premier Cup championships.

She successfully completed all three phases of the Provincial Team Development Program after her initial selection earlier this spring. Coastal FC is enjoying some rare time off before beginning preparation for the BCPSL fall season.

Laroque is headed to South Delta secondary in September and is enrolled in the school's soccer academy.
