The U12 Delta Footmen capped off a terrific field lacrosse season by capturing the gold medal at the provincial championships in Victoria.

The three-day, eight team championship attracted the best field lacrosse entries from across the province, including teams from Vancouver Island, the Okanagan and the Lower Mainland.

The tournament began Friday with the U12s playing their first game against Mid Island Lightning which they handily won 13-3. That afternoon they were up against a strong Coquitlam Adanacs 3 team. It was a hard fought game against their season rival but ended with Delta winning, 8-5.

The following day brought rain and wind but this did not stop the Footmen from playing at their best. They beat the Oceanside Buccaneers 16-1 which left them in first place in round robin play, advancing to the playoffs on Sunday.

The semi-final against the Valley Attack was a hard fought battle with barely a goal spread throughout much of the game. The determined and focused Delta team fought hard to win 14-11.

The result put the locals in the gold medal game against another strong Coquitlam team. Delta jumped out to an early lead and never looked back in a 6-2 win.

Goalies Alex Hobbs and Alex Rice's performances were outstanding throughout the championships. Game MVPs in round-robin play went to Sean Cochrane, Cole Thodos, Jake Cantlan and Josh Vaughn.

Cochrane also took MVP honours in the gold medal game, while Brian Larsen was presented the Warrior Fair Play Award

The team represents all of Delta with players from Tsawwassen, Ladner and North Delta. The Footmen roster also includes: Neil Bains, Tristan Bell, Hayden Dance, Liam Feenan, Liam Grant, Eric Kalmbach, Grant McDonald, Liam O'Reilly, Addy Park, Mitchell Robinson, Connor Sagert, Jackson Skujins, Bryant Spence, Ian Trevorrow and Rory Trevorrow.

The Footmen are coached by Dave Cochrane, Les Wolanski, Larry Larsen and Jordan Smith. Kathy Dance is the team manager.
