U18 Delta Stars win gold in Nanaimo

The C1 female hockey team takes top prize for second year in a row

The U18 Delta Stars C1 hockey team owns Nanaimo.

For the second straight year, the team won gold at the recent Nanaimo Female Winter Classic.

The Stars competed against three other female associations in the tournament (Richmond Ravens, the Nanaimo Clippers and Cowichan Valley Capitals.

The Stars beat the Ravens 2-0, Clippers 3-1 and Capitals 4-1 which gave them a first-place ranking going into the championship game against Nanaimo in which Delta won 3-0.

Violet Stevens got the first goal in the first period with the assist going to Claire Bannister. Taylor Murrell got the second and third goals in the third period with assists from Kaitlyn Yim and Ameeran Grewal.

The full roster included: Malea Ashe, Claire Bannister, Ameeran Grewal, Chloe Houghton, Kaylee Inouye, Kylie Kamiya, Annabel Lancaster, Isla Lavalle, Taylor Murrell, Ryan O’Dwyer, Kajul Randhawa, Violet Stevens, Sarah Wick, Delilah Woodliffe and Kaitlyn Yim.

Coaches: Sean Johnson (head coach), Alexis Kamiya (assistant coach), Iain Lancaster (assistant coach) and Cameron Kamiya (HCSP). Stacey Kamiya is the team manager.
