Walter shortlisted for B.C. U16 team

Ladner's Mitch Walter has been shortlisted as a potential member of Team B.C. for the U16 Western Branch Challenge, slated for Oct. 27-30 in Moose Jaw.

Ladner's Mitch Walter has been shortlisted as a potential member of Team B.C. for the U16 Western Branch Challenge, slated for Oct. 27-30 in Moose Jaw.

The 5-foot-9 centre was identified following the recent Male U16 Provincial Camp at the South Okanagan Events Centre in Penticton. Walter, who captained the South Delta Bantam AAA Storm this past season, was selected in the second round by the Edmonton Oil Kings in May's Western Hockey League Bantam Draft.

Walter and the other shortlisted players will now be evaluated by the Team B.C. coaching staff over the course of the hockey season, and the final roster will be announced in October. He is expected to be suiting up for the B.C.

Major Midget Hockey League's Greater Vancouver Canadians for the 2011-12 campaign.

"The coaching staff would like to congratulate all the players that participated in the U16 Provincial Camp," said Team BC Head Coach Adam Hayduk.

"The announcement of those players that earned a spot on the shortlist brings us one step closer to the 2011 Western Branch Challenge. We look forward to watching these players over the next ten weeks and hope all the players have been working hard in hopes of cracking the final roster."
