The Tsawwassen Yankees capped their remarkable turnaround season by capturing the Midget AA Tier II baseball championship.

Midway through the season, no one would have thought the team would get this far, having piled up far more losses than wins. However, by the end of the season, the Yankees were unstoppable. They won their last eight games including a nail biter when they gave up seven runs in the first inning but went on to win 9-8 in extra innings.

After sweeping their pool 3-0 and triumphing over the Newton Athletics in the semi-final, it was time for the showdown with the Vancouver Rockies at a rain-soaked Ray Carter Field.

Pitcher Nick Damak took control of the game from the outset and only gave up one hit and no runs. The Yankees were hitting well in spite of the soggy field conditions and got in six runs before the game was finally called in the sixth inning on account of the bad weather.

Coached by Stu Bosch and Harry Dykstra, the team also included Will and Jonny Murphy, Stu Thornley, Chris Boulding, Beau Mathesen, Mark Dykstra, Adam Bosch, Kevin Marlowe, Robert Scarr, Seiji Takahashi and Yuichiro Tsukasa.
