NEW YORK — Ottawa Senators goaltender Mads Sogaard is the NHL's rookie of the month for February.

The 22-year-old went 4-0-1 with a .922 save percentage and 2.33 goals-against average in six appearances.

Sogaard, who made his NHL debut last February, is the fourth rookie netminder in Senators history to earn points in his first five or more decisions of a season, following Ray Emery (6-0-1) in 2005-06, Robin Lehner (2-0-4) in 2012-13 and Jani Hurme (3-0-2) in 2000-01.

The Dane recorded at least 30 saves in three of his five February starts and also yielded two or fewer goals three times, capped by a run of three straight wins to close the month with a .938 save percentage and 1.67 GAA.

The NHL said in a statement Sogaard edged out Arizona goaltender Connor Ingram, Arizona forward Matias Maccelli, Buffalo winger Jack Quinn, Anaheim centre Mason McTavish and Calgary winger Jakob Pelletier to secure the monthly honour.

Senators forward Shane Pinto was named the league's rookie of the month for October.
