The detailed design work was completed in late September and now the City of Delta is awarding a number of contracts to complete the Delta Cultural Centre.

Council recently approved another contract to move the city’s new museum a step closer to reality.

A contract valued at over $52,000 was awarded for the design and production of exhibit graphics for the Delta Cultural Centre, which is to be an interpretive storytelling facility to share the cultural and natural history of Delta.

“The design and production of exhibit graphics is an integral part of the delivery of the interpretive work and associated exhibit experience. Graphic design for interpretive environments is highly specialized work that takes into consideration audience types, visual ability levels, content hierarchy, material selections and requires significant coordination with the other disciplines involved in the development of the Delta Cultural Centre,” a report explains.

“The work, from creative concept through to illustration, typesetting, and delivery of production-ready files needs to consider both two-and three-dimensional spaces and integrate with planned casework and digital presentations.”

The graphic design and production work will involve 245 individual production components, ranging from specialized artifact labels through to floor-to-ceiling mural graphics, the report adds.

The new facility will be located on the first floor of the former courthouse in the Ladner civic precinct.

Three years ago, the Delta Museum, which had been housed in a century-old building in Ladner Village, closed its doors and its collection was put in storage. The museum was there since 1969.

The Delta Museum and Archives Society, now called the Delta Heritage Society, continues to own the artifact collection and has a say in what the new museum will offer, but has relinquished day-to-day operational control to the city.

The 6,500 square foot facility is to open next spring.
