Reports of the blaze began to surface on social media shortly after 8 p.m. as clouds of thick, black smoke could be seen for several blocks, prompting many residents to start asking what was going on.

Several comments and photos then started surfacing on the Ladner's Landing Facebook group.

When the Optimist arrived on scene around 9:15 p.m., Delta police had part of the street blocked off to traffic and an officer was not allowing anyone to go past the barricade set up to get any closer to the fire scene.

Residents were flocking to the area to catch a glimpse of the fire.

Unconfirmed reports say the property was a barn being used as a warehouse and no animals were inside the structure.

As this is a developing story, the Optimist has been unable to speak with fire officials, but will do so in the morning and update this story.

Anyone with information to share about this story can do so by emailing ijacques@delta-optimist.com.
