Delta introduces new assisted listening system

New assisted listening technology recently installed at Delta City Hall and city recreation and seniors’ centres will make it better for individuals with hearing challenges visiting Delta facilities.

The hearing loop technology eliminates background noise and provides clearer, improved sound for individuals with t-Coil equipped hearing aids, or cochlear implants.

A perimeter induction loop system was installed in council chambers at City Hall in Ladner to ensure improved service for individuals attending council meetings.

There are also systems at the engineering department, community planning and development department, finance department and administration/Office of the City Clerk at City Hall.

In addition, counter top assistive hearing systems have been installed at the following City of Delta facilities:

* Kennedy Seniors Recreation Centre

* McKee Seniors Recreation Centre

* Ladner Leisure Centre

* North Delta Recreation Centre

* South Delta Recreation Centre

* Sungod Recreation Centre

* Winskill Aquatic and Fitness Centre

Hearing and counter loop locations at city facilities are marked with a sign featuring the universal symbol for hearing loops in areas where loops are active.

“We are working to incorporate the latest communications technologies to maximize accessibility and inclusivity for all residents and guests at City facilities,” said Mayor George Harvie.”

The City of Delta thanks the Rick Hansen Foundation and provincial government, through the Ministry of Social Development and Social Innovation, for their financial support towards this project, helping to increase accessibility at city facilities.
