Delta police will be out in force this weekend for the start of the 2018 summer CounterAttack campaign.

So far this June DPD have dealt with 44 drivers impaired by drugs or alcohol. Some are facing criminal charges. Others had their vehicles towed, impounded, and are facing steep fines.

Police are focusing on impaired drivers because on average in B.C. 65 people die every year in crashes involving impaired driving.

“We need you to do your part. If your Canada Day celebration plan involves alcohol or drugs, make sure you have a plan on how to get home safely,” said DPD public affairs coordinator Cris Leykauf. “Every year on Canada Day there is an average of 460 crashes in the Metro Vancouver area, with 140 injuries. Make sure you and your loved ones aren’t part of those grim statistics.”
