Delta Police Pipe Band plays alongside Paul McCartney

The Delta Police Pipe Band shared the stage with a music legend over the weekend when it joined Sir Paul McCartney during his concert in Vancouver.

The band was brought on stage to provide bagpipes and percussion for Mull of Kintyre, a song from his Wings days, which the 70-year-old rock legend performed as part of a second encore Sunday night in front on 40,000 fans at B.C. Place.

"It was spectacular," said pipe major John Ralston. "It was the quickest five minutes of my life."

Ralston said the band had been in contact with Live Nation, the company that organized Sunday's show, a couple months ago after the concert was announced. Three weeks ago, Ralston said, he got another call saying the pipe band's appearance was going ahead.

The band rehearsed with McCartney's band on Saturday and then again with McCartney himself on Sunday afternoon.

"He was great," Ralston said of meeting and performing with him. "He was really down to earth and really nice to work with."
