Trustees on Tuesday elected Val Windsor to be the new chair with Laura Dixon, who had been board chair since 2012, elected as vice-chair.

Windsor, a former Delta Teachers’ Association president who had been the board vice-chair, has been a Delta school trustee for the past eight years.

“I am looking forward to this opportunity to serve as board chairperson in a school district that provides such exciting learning opportunities for students, and to continue the work as a voice for education in Delta, and as an advocate for our schools. I would like to thank my fellow board members for their hard work and commitment,” she said.

Windsor is also a retired teacher whose involvement in public education spans almost five decades.

She was re-elected as an independent in last year’s civic election.

The board’s latest operating budget didn’t require any cuts to balance the books and even managed a small surplus, thanks in large part to enrollment having stabilized in recent years.

It remains to be seen how the budget will be impacted by the provincial government’s review of the funding allocation formula. The board has been told the new formula will be in place in time for the next budget.
